Essential Oils: The Why and How

Image of essential oils and the plants that may be part of them.

Thousands of people suffer from stress, lack of motivation, nervousness and anxiety, headaches, nausea, and more. While you might find relief from some over the counter medications or other remedies, you may be missing the answer: essential oils.

The History

Essential oils gained popularity through aromatherapy, where they’re inhaled through the nose, often through the use of diffusers in the home. The oils come from plant extracts: parts of plants –– from bark to flowers and fruit –– are steamed to release fragrant compounds, which are then bottled and sold.

How They Can Help

There are nearly 100 types of essential oils. Each kind is distinct, with different combinations of potential health benefits and relief for all kinds of pain. We’ll break down each popular scent, and how they may be able to help ailments.

  1. Boost Energy

Feeling sluggish lately? It may be the Zoom fatigue, never-ending to-do lists, or, of course, the general state of the world. The Peppermint essential oil is thought to not only wake you up, but keep you awake. The sharp, calming scent can help you recenter, feel better, and get back to work –– or finally start relaxing.

  1. Improve Your Mood

Some days are just not so great. With Chamomile, Lemon or Rose essential oils, you may be able to turn that frown upside down. These scents are light and bright, and help clear your mind of things that stress you out or make you upset.

  1. Relieve Stress

This is one of the most popular uses for essential oils: relaxation. Lavender, Lemon, and Rose are often associated with calming your nerves. The clean scents can quickly create a calming environment, and bring your mind back down from the clouds.

  1. Increased Immunity

Essential oils are often used to fight infections, boost immunity, and keep people feeling strong and well. Our Tea Tree and Eucalyptus scents may help silence a cough, clear your chest, disinfect wounds, control blood sugar, soothe cold sores and overall, breathe easier.
